Aluminium is the second most important metal after steel. Yet aluminum is still a relatively "young" material: since its discovery in the early 19th century, significant aluminum production only began in the second half of the 20th century. On an industrial scale, it didn't begin until the 20th century!
Aluminum sheet has many advantages: For one thing, this lightweight metal has a much lower density than steel. An aluminum cube with an edge length of 1 x 1 x 1 cm weighs just 2.7 g. A steel cube of the same size weighs about 7.9 g. Aluminum sheets therefore weigh only about a third of steel sheets! This naturally makes them interesting for lightweight construction, as well as for vehicle construction and aerospace (duralumin).
Their ease of processing also makes them ideal for DIY enthusiasts.
How much does 1 m² of aluminium sheet weigh? How much does 1 m² of aluminium sheet cost?
This, of course, depends on the sheet type and thickness: 1 m² of 1 mm thick smooth sheet weighs 2.7 kg.
How do you cut aluminium sheet?
Your custom cuts are cut from large-format aluminium sheets using hydraulic guillotine shears.
If you want to make additional cutouts or holes at home, it's easy: aluminium is a relatively soft material, and aluminium sheets can be easily processed with standard DIY tools. You can cut aluminium sheets
- file
- milling
- sand with a belt sander
- cut thin sheet metal with tin snips or thicker sheet metal with an electric jigsaw or
- work with the angle grinder or the "flex".
Just make sure you use a metal saw blade or, if using an angle grinder, a metal disc.

Who can bend aluminium sheet to size?

Can aluminium sheet rust?
Not in the conventional sense. You won't find reddish-brown rust (iron oxide) on clean aluminum. Corrosion does occur, however. Aluminum sheet forms a whitish, matte oxide layer in air, making it highly corrosion-resistant to "normal" environmental influences. This isn't a problem for roofs if you have low aesthetic demands.
Aluminum rims, on the other hand, are severely affected by road salt after a curb collision: the damaged paint layer causes whitish efflorescence. While these are generally harmless, they are very unsightly.
Therefore, if you want your aluminum sheet to retain its decorative appeal for the long term, we recommend coloured anodised, painted, or powder-coated aluminum. Take a look at our colour range.
However, steel particles can detach from cutting tools and rub into the soft aluminum surface. Under certain circumstances, this can create the appearance of "flash rust." However, this is harmless to the aluminum sheet. Any rust spots can be carefully scraped off and the traces polished away.
