This seam-welded square tubing made of structural steel can be used for all constructions; it is easy to weld using all welding methods and, of course, is magnetic. Due to its low price, ease of processing, and high flexural strength combined with its low weight, square tubing has countless applications.
It is frequently used for the construction of fences or gates, for railings, supports, or balconies in architecture and construction, as gates in agriculture or forestry, for the construction of vehicle frames, as crossbeams, stiffeners, and much more in mechanical engineering, and, of course, as semi-finished products for industry. It can also be used in furniture construction or scaffolding.
How stable is a square tube?
Square tubes can absorb enormous loads. The "trick" is that the material in tubes is located far away from the neutral axis.
Thus, for a given constant cross-sectional area, a tube with a thin wall thickness but a large diameter will exhibit a higher section modulus against bending than a tube with a smaller diameter but a thicker wall.
Rectangular tubes, with their geometry, take full advantage of this "trick." Here, the stretched and compressed fibers are very far apart. With minimal material usage and thus also minimal weight, a rectangular tube will achieve a particularly high section modulus – but only in one bending plane. However, rectangular tubes are less rigid against torsion.
What types of square tubes are available? How much does rectangular tube weigh?
If you'd like to learn more about the different square tubes, or square tubes or rectangular tubes, we recommend our >>Square Tube Knowledge Article<< . Here you'll find the available sizes and the respective weights per meter.
In our shop you can also find suitable slatted plugs for these pipes and - for use with height-adjustable feet - threaded plugs made of plastic .
S235JR is a typical base steel for mechanical engineering or steel construction. The material is hot-rolled, thus exhibiting scale on the surface. To protect against corrosion, a surface coating in the form of paints, waxes, oils, powder coatings, or electroplating is required.
On request: Drilling according to sketch
We can also drill holes into your configured workpiece*.
Please select the number of holes from the menu. Shortly after your purchase is completed, we will automatically send an email requesting a sketch. Subject: "Drill holes for your order: AU ....., Order number: .....".
Be sure to read the PDF document attached to the email!
Then simply send us your sketch as a reply to this email. We need to be able to clearly identify the position of the hole center(s) and the hole diameter .
Without this sketch, your order cannot be started!
* Holes are circular. Slotted holes, countersinks, or rectangular holes are not possible!
The possible bore diameter depends on the material thickness:
Material thickness up to 1.25 mm: 5 mm, 5.5 mm, 6 mm, 6.5 mm, 7 mm, 7.5 mm, 8 mm Ø,
Material thickness from 1.5 to 2.5 mm: 5 mm, 5.5 mm, 6 mm, 6.5 mm, 7 mm, 7.5 mm, 8 mm, 8.5 mm, 9 mm, 9.5 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm Ø,
Material thickness from 3 mm: 5 mm, 5.5 mm, 6 mm, 6.5 mm, 7 mm, 7.5 mm, 8 mm, 8.5 mm, 9 mm, 9.5 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm, 13 mm, 14 mm, 15 mm, 16 mm, 17 mm, 18 mm, 19 mm, 20 mm Ø.
On request: hot-dip galvanized (+ approx. 14 working days delivery time!)
Please note: For hot-dip galvanizing, the workpiece, sheet or profile must be suspended from one or two hooks.
To do this, we need to drill one or two holes (ø 6 mm) close to the edge if there is no other way to hang it.
First, we cut your product from the raw material. Then, we perform any necessary or desired additional work (such as deburring, rounding, drilling, edging, and welding). The workpiece is then degreased and pickled before being placed in the zinc bath.
Therefore, hot-dip galvanized components are always labor-intensive custom-made products! Returns are not possible.
Due to these numerous preparatory steps by hand and the hot-dip galvanizing by an external partner, the delivery time increases by approximately 14 working days.
The suspension hooks or wires may leave visible marks on the galvanization.
Thank you for your understanding!
On request: miter cut
We can also miter cut your profiles right away. Our band saws produce significantly straighter edges than subsequent cuts with an angle grinder. This saves you a lot of time when working with welded structures! Please be sure to check the cutting geometries in the option images, especially for miters 7 and 8. These are similar but not identical (left hand - right hand).
Angle accuracy to approximately ± 1 degree, so some reworking may be necessary for exact designs. The length always refers to the longest edge!
Note: The cut edges are not entirely burr-free. We recommend having the tubes deburred by us at the same time – you can select this inexpensive additional service from the dropdown menu on the right.
Non-deburred material has sharp edges. Please remember to wear appropriate protective clothing and gloves!
On request: Priority processing
If you need it particularly quickly, we offer priority processing for an additional charge. This means: If
we receive your prepaid order Monday through Thursday , it will be completed and shipped within 24 hours. The priority option (subject to an additional charge) must be selected for all items in the shopping cart; otherwise, the order will not receive priority processing! This service is not available for all items. If your order exceeds our material or personnel resources, we will contact you immediately to find a solution together. Please feel free to contact us
if you have any further questions !
Note: Priority in combination with subsequent galvanizing is not possible!
